That's like fighting a war with a pocket knife. Enough of us already know DE is useless and the dangers far outweigh what little efficacy DE may have against external parasites only. Once it gets in air sacs of birds, it does not leave, eventually promoting the same condition known as airsacculitis. You can use the DE, despite much safer and more effective alternatives such as Benzamidazoles, but those of us who bother to investigate the numerous trials conducted in poultry research, know better than that.

I used DE a long time ago, guess what? My birds still got worms. DE is ineffective as a worm preventative and wormer. It is ineffective when wet because it absorbs moisture. Inside the chickens innards, it is wet and ineffective. It can adversely effect the air sacs when breathed causing respiratory problems. Long time chicken owners know this from experience.
It is primarily used commercially where grain is sacked/bagged. DE is added in the sacks of grain to help keep the grain free from moisture and deterring grain eating insects. Because the grains are (eventually) edible food products, the government has labled DE as "Food Grade." The term "Food Grade" simply means it has been "graded by the government" to mix with edible products.
Most new chicken owners always want to go the organic route, including using DE when first starting out raising chickens. They usually learn between 6 months to a year more or less, that the DE, and other organic wormers they used didnt work when the chickens start excreting worms. They also find out that DE is useless against a mite infestation.
For those who wish to continue using DE, go ahead and keep using it. They'll learn eventually. I realize there are diehards who'll stand by DE to their grave. They have tunnel vision or are blind in one eye and cant see out the other or are a DE salesman.

Good day to you.
I am not going to war (God knows I've had enough of those !)
I am just trying to formulate my opinion on the matter. I am not claiming that it would be effective or ineffective, I just do not know. I'm asking if you would read the article and tell me your opinion on its results . If there is an article or scientific papers, that you know about, proving the inefficiency of DE in handling internal parasites I would be more then happy to receive the reference or a link!
About the using of DE by dusting, I fully understand the hazard in it! It is like dusting Asbestos flakes(causes Asbestosis) or flakes containing Silica that causes Silicosis!
It is a stupidity do do so from my point of view.
I Thank you in advance.

I understand that in moist environment the ability to absorb liquids by DE by the osmosis process does not exist . (Even that there is a chance that the soluble materials in the DE could make an hypertonic solution that still absorb water from the parasite cell cytoplasm) But what about the grinding properties of the crystals in the DE? In my opinion they can also be useful in a moist environment Especially with the peristaltic movement in the gut.
. I will be happy to hear your opinion!

Once DE becomes wet, it loses its dessication and cutting abilities until it dries. But it is abrasive when wet. A good example is toothpaste; it has DE in it and is abrasive, but no cutting ability.
The abrasiveness wont cut into internal parasites. If a chicken ate enough DE in its feed, it would dry the lining in the chickens innards causing all kinds of problems....talk about malabsorption lol.
When it is dry, it will cut into and dessicate external parasites if there isnt an infestation. I prefer sevin dust which is 5% carbaryl and 95% DE. It's the carbaryl that kills lice on contact, mites may require several dustings depending on the severity of the infestations. Other people use other chemicals to eradicate these pests, it's a choice as what works best.
I've been to Israel several times, Haifa. I love the people and the country.

Haifa is only 40 miles from me. next time you in the aerie, the Beer is on me....

LOL thanks! I wont be leaving the U.S. anymore. I was in the Navy and our ship pulled into Haifa on 3 different occasions during our cruise in the mid 80's. I drank alot of Maccabbee beer at the bars at Mt Carmel. Fun times and very friendly Israeli's who made us feel at home. Haifa was certainly one of my favorite ports of call. Thanks again.

You most welcome!
Now we have dozen upon dozen of privet boutique Breweries with most wonderful Ails and Lagers made from wheat or barley, you could fined!

No, I misread what you said and gave them the dose for one lb each. I will need to remedicate with 9.12ml total. Good thing I checked! It seemed like such a small dose for 8 birds! Thanks again!
How long do I need to discard the eggs for?

I worked my chickens with safeguard mixed with feed and was sure everyone got some. I can't be certain each one got an equal portion.

A week later I have a hen that is very swollen in the belly and lethargic. She is eating and drinking. Her poop is watery, mostly whit with light green mixed in. Do you think this is worm related or there is some else wrong with her?
