The Hobby Farm has officially begun!

Love all the pictures Newtntn. We tried to keep pictures up on our website for a time of several breeds we raise as they grew, but unfortunately have been too busy to continue. Maybe we will revisit our little "How Fast They Grow" series in the near future. It is simply amazing not only how fast they grow, but how much they change in the course of just one week. Your Russian Orloffs are stunning.

@TaylorHobbyFarms Thanks! I appreciate the comment, and I agree with you, keeping up with this is a commitment, but it's pretty fun too! I'll be on the lookout for if you do decide to do that "how fast they grow" series. I've been trying to keep track of how my Orloffs mature because there is so little information out there on them (or at least, not much that's easy to find) about their growing patterns and whatnot. Basically all I know from reading is that they're slow to mature. So I'm trying to document my birds slow climb to adulthood.

In other news! Here is the latest collage of my 6 Orloffs. I think I've determined that I have 2 cockerels and 4 pullets.

The ones I think are pullets are the one on the top left, and the whole bottom row. Which leaves the top middle and right as my suspected cockerels. (I'm 95% sure that those are cockerels, it's the pullets that my jury is still out on)

What else are you planning on doing on your hobby farm? I'm hoping to move and buy a house on around 10 acres in the near future... we bought a house a year ago in a neighborhood that is considered in the country and I hate it. Neighbors are way to close by and there isn't enough green open space for me, nor enough room to have many animals...

Well, the first plans are we are going to make a green house from old windows we got from some family. And I also have a few different gardens I'm planning to start this spring.
As far as animals go, we are thinking of getting a couple goats to start with to help us clear some of our wooded areas and make some pasturage. But after that, we aren't 100% sure, initially we were thinking sheep, but lately we have leaned alpaca.
Definitely going to keep expanding with chickens, and maybe add a goose or turkey or two later. So not a terrible lot of animals at first, but more and more as time will go on. I'm excited.

We are also looking heavily into getting some solar panels soon as well. Very excited.

I hope you can do what you want to do! Best of luck making your space work for you for the time being, but do what you need to.
