I'm sorry to hear about all the ankle, foot, and leg injuries. BE CAREFUL!
henni, hand me downs from friends can be very good too. I had a friend that had 3 daughters that were each a year older than my girls, and their grandparents spent serious money on their clothes. I would pay her $35.00 a garbage bag full of their hand me downs. She would warn me a couple months before she would go through their clothes, so I had time to save the money. I usually got 3 - 5 bags of clothes from her, ONCE A YEAR. There were NO play clothes in the bags. Everything was either new, or had only been worn a few times, most of it had designer labels. There would be nice coats, church dresses, nice outfits for going to birthday parties, pageant dresses, designer jeans, blouses, shirts, fancy socks, leggings, etc. For $175.00 or less, I outfitted my 3 girls, for a year, with everything but play clothes.
Many of our thrift stores here don't accept donations. They have designated days for people to bring in clean, gently worn or new, clothing, and they pay for it. For example, if you have a pair of nice boy's jeans they will pay $1.50 - $3.00, then in their store they sell them for $3.75 - $8.00. They won't accept clothes that are dirty, or in poor condition, so their stores are not filled with "junky" stuff.
