Where we used to live, there was a swamp, so the mosquitoes were bad, especially if we decided to work in the garden in the cool of the evening.
The tree swallows were always flying about feasting on them, but we still got eaten up pretty bad.
Now where we live, there's two ponds that have lots of frogs in them, and we haven't had the same problem with mosquitoes. They're still here, but there's only been one or two evenings so far this year when they attacked us while working the garden.
"Peanut butter swirl" looks to be a rooster - those bright red wing bands & bright red pea comb are the biggest clues. The all-black chick next to him is a pullet. Her comb is much smaller & very pale in comparison.

I noticed two little hoppers in the Del chicken run this morning. Not sure toads or frogs. Probably frogs. I've seen a few around. I don't bother them and don't point them out to the chickens either.Where we used to live, there was a swamp, so the mosquitoes were bad, especially if we decided to work in the garden in the cool of the evening.
