Ended Contest #11 - Dustbathing Contest 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong

He is beautiful--I will have to see if I can get a pic of him and maybe start a thread to see if anyone can guess...he looks very very close to your boy, but I dont see a Phoenix in his tail..The neighbor thought the previous owner said he was Americauna or something similiar but I dont think thats right at all. He has a very distinct blue cream around his neck and the rest of his body is random diluted colors.

Golden Phoenix have the Gold and the gold gene.
Gg with no diluting gene to make it cream or buff.
so it is bright red and bright gold. Mix that with a gold hen with a V pattern and that makes a crele. The hens have a less dramatic pattern. The perfect crele rooster should have the pattern on the tail as well as the rest of the body.
I have not figured out the genetics of lemon cuckoo. The gold is diluted but not to cream or buff but bright yellow. And the pattern is with the hen. So all my attemts to to create lemon end up crele or sexlink. After i figure out my mg issue, I'll be back pouring over color genetics in horses again. Arabian and most of the breeds that are based on colors, like paint and appaloosa breeders actually have DNA testing done for color as well as other traits.

I worked for an Arabian breeder for years and up until right before Christmas I owned 2 paints (my daughter's medicine hat lost a battle with colic 2 days before Christmas).. I have a link to a great color calculator for horses....if it'll help you, just send me a PM and Ill get you the link..
I am thinking this guy is really just a mutt with great colors, and thats why I cant get his colors to pass on dominantly, but I have 2 hens that are out of him that are a diluted blue looking, wondering if I should try and cross him back to them? I try to avoid line breeding, but since the resulting babies will just be used as egg layers, maybe it wouldn't hurt??

Elaine, I started a post on him...general consensus is that he's just a pretty EE, and I need to cross Jim with hens with (I know I'm going to mess this up... ), but I think he said dork wing pattern?
