So I'm just curious what others have experienced, but going outside this morning to check on the chickens and make sure they had food I noticed my Wyandotte wasn't walking behind me like she normally does with the others. I looked everywhere that I could possibly have thought she could be, but she wasn't anywhere in sight. Do chickens not drop feathers if they get swooped up by a hawk? There have been some flying around, but we've been at this house for a couple months... I guess my "lax" attitude about them free-ranging kind of caught up to me. I've heard stories about them going away to be broody, but I'm just not sure about that.
Kind of sad, and it sucks being in the middle of moving and selling our first home (our new home is a mess since we've not had time to tend to it). We're planning on building a awesome coop and enclosed run when we sell the first home, but now I'm wondering if we need to hurry up with that decision.
Their living area is in a shed that was included in the home we bought, and we let them free-range during the day. Just can't imagine that it's been 2 months since we've been here and there hasn't been an issue with any predators.
