A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

What do you call this turkey?

Definitely not a Bourbon Red. My guess is that it is one of the buff varieties that can be hatched from a Rusty Slate mating.

Haven't got a clue what your other one is other than it is some kind of a slate variety. Your best chance of getting an identity on it is to probably ask Porter.

That would give the option of it being a self blue version of a rusty slate which would look like a rusty slate without the black spots.

I think we decided both Ethel and JJ were rusty slates. So that would be a self rusty- rusty slate?

What are your thoughts on the first one?

On the calculator that version is referred to as a rusty lavender (lavender = self blue).

On the first one, I don't know what the poult looked like but it sure looks like it could be a Jersey Buff hen.

Is that one that Ethel and JJ could make? I am sorry, but I have no idea how to work that calculator.

I have never heard of a Jersey Buff. I think it is a hen. I am looking forward too all these hens next year!

Yep, Jersey Buff is just one of the many possibilities.

On the calculator change the first selection to B/b, the third selection to D/d and the first selection in the bottom row to R/r to get Rusty Slate. Do that for both the tom and the hen and then click on calculate cross.

Jersey Buff at Porter's, scroll down to see the hen.

Whatever they are.....rusty rusty slates or buffs...they are beautiful! How cool to have such a colorful flock! And I LOVE coffee. I grind beans too. All the coffee talk made me go brew a cup! But i can't let it sit...need FRESH BREWED!! That first cup in the morning is the best.

So Daisy is still anxious before she lays an egg. Paces & makes alien sounds. Won't settle down. Has actually hopped the fence a few times. The Bourbon Red just lays & keeps on walking! I put a dog crate in her pen...thinking she was looking for a private place to lay. They just pooped all over it. Could she be looking for a man??? I'm just trying to figure her out. When she's not getting ready to lay she just hangs out & comes up to get her head scratched. Any ideas folks??

Thanks R2Elk!

That is a beautiful turkey! Sorry to have to bother you for the calculations, I just do not get it. I must be challenged.

when I push calculate nothing happens.

Sorry can't help you there. I don't know just what service they are using to run the calculator. It could be Java or it could be some other process which your browser doesn't allow to run.

Thanks for all the turkey pics!
