A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I think I have a fox in my pasture. I saw canid type footprints, discovered a den, it seems solitary, and I found a tidy food cashe. Even though it is close, it hasn't appeared that it makes a move on my poultry. I've seen evidence that he occasionally comes to clean up any turkey food on the ground, when snow came, but turkeys are 20 ft up and chickens are put away. I have a live trap out just in case. If it leaves my birds alone, I won't kill it, apparently they will kill raccoons in their territory here and coons are the bigger issue for me because they climb and the fox can't climb to where the birds roost and the Jake's are big so he won't be bothering them during the day since they mob everything together. It better behave, though, or the neighbors who also have chickens might also kill it on sight.

I use to think coons and fox did not co-exist well, but a trip into the holy land

(federally stolen ancestral land taken be force to turn into a playground for the others)

I found a coon den about 25 yards from a fox den... I still had plenty of both all year.

AND by the way....my coonie is totally secure in his houndness not to mind a goofy hat or bow tie. LOL!!
Ralphie...this hound has really surprised me. He's unexpectedly good in the house. An extreme cuddler. Layed back & easy. Yet turns onto a ruthless hunter as need be. He doesn't say much unless he's on a tree or wants to tell me something. No alarm barking. If he does let loose in the house it will peel paint. Yet I love the sound of his voice! Due to their sweet & charming nature...I'm betting Judy would fall in love with one!

A friend of mine has a bloodhound. She is a sweetheart..

The WW is not a fan, two reasons, shedding and saliva..

Of course, Pearl is a shedder too. She is not a fan of dog hair....

I don't have dogs or cats on my farm for 3 reasons, and they are major issues in the family
# 1. my brother is deathly terrified of dogs
#2. both my mom and my brother are allergic to dogs, and cats
the 3rd reason is I have not been able to find a cat i could trust around my chickens, and my neighbors that have 30+ not well cared for cats is not helping my issue with cats

my personal favorite animals are turkeys, and horses, but i do love caring for all my animals, and i'm already looking into getting a couple of acres fenced in for a horse, with 40 acres of land to build on, i don't have a lack of land to build on (currently my farm is using up roughly 1 acre)

Standing at the kitchen sink & Iris flew by. She was pretty high off the ground. No clue as to what prompted her. She didn't fly out of the yard. Guess she just decided to go airborne. Gotta love a teenage turkey hen. I do love seeing them fly. Iris is still a skinny little squirt....so she's built nicely to fly! Daisy still does her down & back morning flights. Marigold is built like a hoss...but she can fly if she wants. Blossom doesn't fly much. Funny how they are so different. They seriously do have individual personalities.

Lol my vintage early 70s kitchen
I like it!

I did not want a blood hound. The dh loves them. I can't stand the droopy eyes and the drooling.
I always thought all hounds were like that.
It wasn't until I saw a black and tan in Menards over the summer I realised they weren't.
That is how the conversation got started. . I really wanted another house dog, but we never could agree on what to get. I love the labs. . but they do shed so bad!
So far I haven't noticed any shedding at all from mason.
But.. He's still pup. I like the slick coat though. .his hair is really short and I can wipe him off with a wet rag and he's all clean and shiny. :love
