Hello, my name is Kara.
Today I found a goose egg. It is only 24 hours old. The geese in our neighborhood pond just hatched their first goslings. The nest was old and they left the eggshells there, but when I looked in the nest, there was an egg. It was not there yesterday. The parents go to the nest at night and incubate it, but I don't think they know it's there. They care so much about their goslings, they forgot the egg. I picked it up and candled it. There was an air pocket but since it's only a day old, there's no veins. We have it under a heat lamp at 100 degrees F. The shell of the egg feels right in between hot and cold, so it's no too cold but it's not overheating. How long should I wait to throw it out before I know it's dead?
Thanks,
Kara Host

Sorry I can't help with that. It would be a great question for the folks on the goose threads in the "Other Backyard Poultry."

By day 7 you should see some veining if fertile. But it's very hard to hatch goose eggs so you maybe disappointed.
