Raising backyard chickens here in Salem has started to become more popular over the last couple of years. The city didn't really know how to react to the growing popularity and at one point the building inspector told one woman she couldn't have chickens.
she appealed that decision and won(although it did cost her over $500 to appeal the decision).
As a result of all this, Salem has written up new ordinances to allow for keeping chickens.
Unfortunately, the woman who was at the center of all this, is still being harassed by a neighbor. This neighbor has tried everything they can think of, from suing the chicken owner, to illegally placing video cameras in the yard with the chickens. (I was there when the police showed up and removed the cameras) We have started a go fund me account to help her with the court costs the suit is costing her and to help her hire a lawyer. She herself has started a petition on change.org in an effort to stop these people from continuing to waste our city resources in this blatant attempt to bully and harass her.
If these people win, then it will set a precedent and everyone in this City will be at the mercy of their neighbors as to what they can and can't do in their own back yards.

Both have the storyline about this insane attempt by her neighbors and what they have been putting her through. You won't believe what she has been going through all because she has 5 backyard chickens.
