I have a handful of chicks - and one of them was behaving a little suspicious yesterday. It was a warm, sunny day, so I took the ladies outside to have some fresh air....but while outside one of my wyandottes looked like she was trying to crow. Is this normal for a lady, or do I have a roo in my flock?

Chicks can start crowing very early, although I've never had it happen, but if the chick has a flat yellow comb like a pullets it probably was just choking/coughing or just stretching its neck

5 weeks is a little young to sex wyandottes. I can't be certain with mine until 6-8 weeks usually. Sometimes I can tell a week or two sooner though. Of course, different lines mature at different rates, but FWIW, I've never had a wyandotte cockerel start crowing much before 4-5 months old.

If you post photos, I'd be happy to take a look and give you my opinion on its sex. :)

My flock is brand new (brought home this past Sunday) from a local family farm (90% female run). Three of the babies are 2-weeks, and my Wyandottes are 5-weeks. Since it was our first time outside, we setup shop inside a portable run, and I brought their food and water. They seemed to have fun pecking around the grass when I noticed one of the Wyandottes looking like she was trying to crow. I couldn't tell what she was doing...it could have been choking (?). I was completely caught off guard (being a first-time chicken mama), and had never seen this behavior inside.

Thanks for the feedback!! I'll try to post pictures sometime in the next day or so.
