    Early Bird Serama

My little girl Nyx, after maturing and laying eggs for only 2 weeks went SUPER broody to the point where my sweet cuddly girl was trying to nest in shrubs and the neighbors yard to avoid us taking her eggs. So I bought 6 fertilized eggs and am letting her hatch'em😁🙄 This will be the first time...

    The mama hen…is a rooster?

With our last run of meat birds, we got a mystery chick, who we named Chili Pepper. About a month or two later, Chili is still small and cute, and we put her with three chicks, one whom we hatched ourselves. She sat on them, despite her not being much older than they, and she was a great mama...

    Duck eggs

10 little duck eggs waiting to hatch. In lockdown. Someone recommended glass gems or stones to better regulate heat. I have a large glass mug and three shot glasses. They also are holding water for humidity. As always the incubator was full cleansed after last use. Trying to watch the temp &...

Broody hen regulating humidity to hatch?

So I had to bring in my broody mama and her egg (she’s a bantam and the only viable egg left) because our temps here dipped into the single digits with negative wind chills. We have her set up in a corner of a room where it’s chilly but not cold, but of course that same room has a fireplace and...

What's the chance my duck eggs are fertilized

We just finished incubating 2 eggs that were fertilized but didn't make it to the end but then that same day those 2 were appeared to hatch we found another egg in her nest and put it in the incubator. It never developed any. About 2 weeks after that we found 4 more in her nest. Today thay are...

Black Belgian D'Anver Bantams--Broody or Not?

We are thinking about making a metal shed coop and moving our current flock of 6 (soon to be 10)into it. We put a lot of effort into our current coop and originally thought that it would be the coop for winter since it is just easier to move around and get fresh grass weekly with, and the shed...

Can I give a broody hen live chicks?

I was originally going to get fertilized polish eggs and slip em under one of my pullets when she goes broody, but the eggs would most likely break in shipment, so it's safer to get live polish chicks from our mill this spring. I was wondering if I could still put the live chicks under her and...

    Duck and adopted chick

I was lucky to have my polish lay at the same time my duck went broody. I rolled my eggs under her and later on took the duck eggs (they went bad) and today I had my first chick hatch!! The mama duck has no problem with him/her but will the other ducks in the flock? Seeing as it is a small chicken?
