Hi everyone,
Last September we hatched 6 buff Orpingtons. 4 of them ended up cockerels and only 2 pullets. Can’t have roosters in my community so I had to harvest the roosters as they started crowing.
At 14 weeks, at 17 weeks and 19 weeks.
Last weekend I harvested my last rooster. A very sweet boy with a caring personality.
My 19-week old pullets seem to miss him, when I open their run for them to forage around the yard they act scare of everything.
They don’t walk far away from the run.
They only spend 10-15 outside the run and immediately coop themselves. Whereas before they could spend hours foraging.
They aren’t “speaking “ as much either. They also don’t seem to have much of an appetite.
Will they get over this mood?
I will add two more hens but until the end of March or later.
Any idea what I can do to cheer them up?
Thank you for your help. It
