We're going into summer, it's getting hotter each day. And over the past 5 weeks I've had 3 girls sick with sour crop (3rd is in for the night to see if we can get it moving). They're 2 year old Orpingtons (blues and black). Other 2 hens have been fine (well, one had an unrelated reproductive issue but no sour crop).
First girl had impaction with sour crop and needed 2 procedures.
Second had shell less eggs and sour crop where she didn't eat for three days, was treated with nystatin and came around (still working on that appetite).
Third one has known reproductive issues (heat makes her release multiple eggs) and was being treated for a bumble food this morning, when we noticed a bit of a pendulous crop that wasn't emptying. It's filled with liquid, but she is absolutely ravenous.
All of the girls feel underweight, so we've added some game crumble with higher protein.
Wondering if they could have had some kind of infection they're slowly spreading through the flock?
Would worms be obvious in the poo? We check each day for anything odd.
Maybe the food is going bad as the weather changes? - if the girls don't eat their wet food we give it to the sparrows.
I noticed all of them getting some kind of sickness last year around spring/summer, but this has been an //exhausting// 5 weeks.
