4-H-er thread!

This is a thread for anyone who is in 4-H! I am starting this thread for people to meet people and talk about breeding and showing your birds and animals. To start out say your name and the breed(s) of chickens that you have, and any other kinds of animals.


I am Alex and I have seramas, And in 4-H I am showing Dairy Goats and horses, And I might try my hand at meat birds this year

Hello everyone! Pretty sure I already introduced myself but it's been a while! Anyway, you can call me feather, this is going to be my first year showing as a senior so SUPER excited! I will be showing poultry (of course!); chickens and ducks, horses, and probably entering some stuff in static exhibits! I also do archery. Glad to be here!

State Fair was once again awesome!
In 4H I was Champion Senior Showman, and in Open I had BV,RB,Res Asiatic

I get to do a chicken showmanship demonstration on the 15th for the 4H group! Yay!
I am taking BM-1 hopefully he behaves as I haven't handled him in months.

If they turn out to be easy to handle, any breed mixed or pure can be shown for showmanship (at my county fair) and sometimes it's easier for the younger kids to show pullets because they are smaller. We have a lot of younger kids this year and some of the older kids will let them show their smaller birds for showmanship. Also because of the size of our county fair, they will let you show "breeds" that aren't accepted in the APA, as long as you show them in the correct class which they would be in.

I haven't bought any chicks this year, I only buy for my laying flock anyways though. Because of our cold weather I haven't been able to hatch anything of mine, but a breeder did send me some eggs and right now I have 15 eggs in the incubator, 11 for sure fertile and 4 maybes, with 8 days to go. They are all LF Cochins

For the 3rd year in a row I won Grand Champion SR. Showmanship!

My birds were looking a bit rough this year so they didn't make it into the top class of breeders, but I knew they wouldn't so it just made for a learning experience this year! Fun show and I was able to interact with a lot of the Junior and Cloverbud members too!

Our fair starts next week; let the circus begin!! lol it should be good, I've been incredibly busy so I haven't been able to spend as much time with the birds and prepare for show this year as I would have liked but I have confidence it'll go fine!

That's the only time of year us farm and ranch kids can do it... between branding, the first cut of hay, and the second cut of hay most years.

Here's the 2 best cochins, I'm Hoping they can get Reserve and Grand in 4H amd possibly BV and RV and maybe RB at state
