4 week old Cream Legbar and/or Welbar Chicks side-by-side

Oh I was just being silly.

For all intensive purposes, it is certainly a legbar. There is always big stink about a chickens looks in accordance with breed, but 95% of folks her On BYC will never step foot into a show. As backyard enthusiasts, we are after things like eggs! If she lays beautiful blue eggs, she is legbar enough for me

There may also be a small chance that her crest was picked off by another chick at an early age, and after a first molt, it could pop up?!?

Then it wouldn't be a legbar

I think it can be a Legbar still (maybe a Golden). From what I've read I think no crest just means it's not a Cream Legbar.

I have both. Mine are 18 days old and the Legbars are just beginning to show tiny crests - no more than a little tuft of downy feathers on their heads.
Here are my two Legbars one is Opal colored so easy to tell apart.

Thanks I have 4 new chicks and definitely seeing crests on the Legbars this time around. So ya, no crests by 4 or 5 weeks makes me feel the previous group were all Welbars or maybe gold Legbars.

So now I have the roo or pullet question . My last 2 Welbars, same age, same hatchery, looking so different. I realize that as crosses they can look very different, but can anyone tell if both are pullets? They were hatched on March 30, so they are now 3 months old

Welp, the chicken I thought was a Welbar due to no crest is now laying, yup, blue eggs as far as I can tell, there's no crest. The one with the gold mantle hasn't started laying yet, but can't wait to see what color she lays.
