4 week old Cream Legbar and/or Welbar Chicks side-by-side

Thank you . None of them seem to have a crest yet, and they are at about 6 weeks. Would I be seeing a crest by now? The color of the mantle is so different on them.

I have 2 legbar cockerels going on 3 weeks old .I wanted some pullets too but couldn't get any pullets because they were sold out.Out of all my other chicks (ameracauna's, brown leghorn and welsummers)my legbars are the only light ones.The others have chipmunk markings.

We hatched a few creme leg bars and they had a very small, but noticeable crest almost immediately. Not like a polish, but you could certainly tell what they were. Not sure if that is normal or not.

If mine don't have a crest, could they still be cream legbars? Or is that a specific characteristic of that hybrid?

I believe all Cream Legbars are crested. Some Legbars - Frost White and Opal - are newer varieties and the genetics is less stable so they are not always crested. But they also don't look like chipmunk chicks because they are pale colored.

That seems to be the only thing missing. The color seems right. Feed-store chicks, what're you gonna do

MyPetChicken declared it was just an imperfection, a random recessive allele. The plumage was right, and the egg was a beautiful turquoise. So she’s simply a Cream Legbar. Hoping my 2 new chicks turn out to be CRESTED Cream Legbars.

Oh I was just being silly.

For all intensive purposes, it is certainly a legbar. There is always big stink about a chickens looks in accordance with breed, but 95% of folks her On BYC will never step foot into a show. As backyard enthusiasts, we are after things like eggs! If she lays beautiful blue eggs, she is legbar enough for me

There may also be a small chance that her crest was picked off by another chick at an early age, and after a first molt, it could pop up?!?
