I bought two mottled java pullets as chicks from a local farm that got a large shipment in from a hatchery. They were pretty close in size and appearance, but lately the comb on this one has been making me wonder if it is a rooster. He is bigger than his sister. Both have wattles that are similarly orange. I’m having a hard time finding pictures online of this breed as teenagers since they don’t seem to be as common. What do you think? The possible rooster in question is on the right. Thank you

I think you are right, and the larger one is a cockerel. This is a very slow developing breed, so it fits with his amount of development. Plus judging by comparison shows a clear difference between the two.

Thanks- that’s what I was worried about. My Rhode Island Red roosters were clearly different at 4-5 weeks. So that makes sense that the javas are a slower developing breed. Thank you for your help!
