A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Well...

My story tonight is of a trouble making Juvenile delinquent. I went out to lock them up for the night. I as happy no turkeys on the fence.. I went to unhook the door and shut it..There he was resting in the middle of the bird netting like it was a hammock!

I had to go inside the coop..inside the run.... and push him towards the fence. He went the other way..

I finally got him pushed to the fence and then shoved him off the fence from the inside.... The door had closed to the coop during this time. (wind)..

I went out the door to run him in, he was standing there complaining and giving me the stink eye for not having the door open for him..

Why is it turkeys can try us so badly.....and think it is no big deal,,,,then when a little thing happens, like the door blows shut...They give me the stink eye??
My 'kids' can be naughty as well. they like to wander, and especially in places they are not supposed to. :) We used to have trouble getting them down for bed, but now that they are maturing more, they know right where to go at night so we have no trouble. How old are yours?

I am not sure, I suppose my oldest is 3-4 years old. The trouble makers are always last springs hatch.

BUT I have notoriously bad turkeys at bedtime. I always have. I think they are part guineas.
oh, hah. I'm glad mine got over the naughtiness. for the most part. my two toms like to pick on my one female and the juvenile emu. but the emus can outrun them, so they are fine. if not, we put the boys away.

For the sake of your hen you need to get rid of one of your toms before breeding season. I try to keep 4 to 5 hens for one tom. Keeping two toms to one hen usually works out very badly for the hen.

R2elk is correct. I am Tom heavy. I lock the girls up so the boys can only dream about touching them. Also I do not keep a boy with the girls more than a week. Then kick them out. Way to rough on girls.

Watch you chickens too, if you get a chicken that happens to submit they will kill it..Heck Toms are so bad they will kill a rock or hubcab during breeding season.. Expect you boys to fight like crazy with each other too..

I had a turkey years ago that just loved his white milk jug. We just let him have at it. lol I had several hens, but when he started to give my daughter "that look" - I traded him off for a one horned goat.

You know....I think some of the funniest pictures posted here is Kathy's pea-porn collection! As many times that I've seen that one shot with that camera case, it still kills me!
My girls started their molt earlier than normal this year. And I was noticing their neck feathers seems to be ridding higher on their necks. They look like they are wearing turtle neck sweaters. Cashmere of course. Also noticed Annie has a bunch of tiny little feathers along her lower beak. Never seen her grow those before. She also has quite a thick load of feathers making her look a bit pudgy. Fat & fluffy right before Thanksgiving is not a good look. Daisy is still growing in feathers. But she too is really growing a thick bunch of neck & head feathers. Probably reading more into this than I should...early molt, turtle neck sweaters....keep thinking they know more about our impending winter than the forecasters.
