A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Here's my rio, is he a rio grade wild turkey? Or a bronze?

Copper - nice looking guy! I had to look up rio grande's - I'd only ever seen pics of the eastern wild. I can't tell the difference between rio and bronze. Can't wait to hear what experts say - getting my wild turkey education tonight :)

Hey guys!

Aurora, sorry about the car. Ugg. But that's a funny picture of Eve directing the attempted car repair! Hope your DH appreciated the extra hand...uh....wing! :)

Fiesty! Not again! Poor Turkules! Wonder what he did. Wise to lower the roost. Knowing how much turkeys like change, I'm sure you did get major stink eye!

Those look like Bronze to me too. You can always go to Porters or Feathersite and check out their pictures. And, as R2elk has pointed out multiple times, it's illegal to own wild turkeys. I believe that's the in all states.

We had great weather this weekend. Spent a lot of time in the gardens. Turkeys sure love tools! Everytime I set something down it was the center of attention. I even groomed a few of the dogs outside. Set up the grooming table, went in to grab a dog & came out to two turkeys (and one chicken ) standing on the table. Boy were they proud of themselves!

The downside is that if my turkeys are wild. I will be turning in the feed store that sold them to me. However the upside is that my husband and i are both licensed wildlife rescue and rehabilitation specialists, so I will be able to keep my turkeys as they have been hand raised by me. But we mainly deal with raccoons and such.

Turkey mating is like sausage. It is a process you best not watch. While the results are pretty great. the process will turn your stomach.

I have never had a Tom hurt a hen, yet. The keyword being yet. I actually think being present is harder on the hen than us not being around. I think the tom gives it an extra hard try, just to prove the hen is his and not ours..

Hmm I'll have to see on that. I just hope he doesn't end up hurting her

Memphis-he thought it was perry funny that she was helping out but he was concerned that she'd poke him in the eye lol. She grabbed his hair a couple times but that was about it. Good news is, we were able to expand our loan and find a fairly cheap car to replace mine for now. We found an '03 subaru forester for around 4k. Hopefully the AWD does good in the snow. I'm used to a big expedition lol

ETA: I was sitting here, thinking that my daughter was messing around and doing something weird in the other room but then i realized that it's my crazy turkeys, running across my roof! Goofy birds!

Good luck with the new ride Aurora! Turkeys running around on your roof! Gotta love 'em! Now that's a noise that would probably panic me till I figured it out!

All of my turkeys are being belly buttons today. I let them out to run around a while and I had to go find them...2 cabins down from us! Then they wouldn't come to me when I called for them, I had to herd them home with a big stick. 20 minutes later, they were ignoring me again and at the other neighbor's house! I had to chase them home AGAIN! They weren't even interested in their treats (until we were back in our own yard). I put them back in their coop and have decided that I may just have to build them a run. They can't be invading the neighbor's property all the time. I wish we had acres upon acres for them to run around but our small acre just doesn't satisfy them.
