They may use them during the day, they may not. If they choose not to sleep in the coop they will probably use them at night. I would still put a roost inside the coop.

My birds spend very little time in their coop during the day other than to eat or lay and that is the only place with roosts. It is a 10' x 12' converted horse stall. They have the barn alley for their indoor run and have access outside of the barn all day after I open it up in the morning.
