Ancona Chicken Thread

Pics
sexing straight combed anconas by comb at a young age. Is it possible?

Here are three pics of varying stages of comb development at 5 weeks. No.1 is clearly a rooster, No. 2 I'm not sure as his/her comb is so much smaller than No. 1 but then there's No 3. which is no doubt a hen and her comb is again much smaller than No. 2. I have 8 chicks all the same age and they all fall in each of these three categories, but I only have 1 that is as large as No. 1 below. Could it be that I lucked out with 7 hens and 1 rooster?

Any opinions on No. 2?

No 1. -- rooster?

No 2 -- ?????

No 3: Hen?

I have been searching and searching on Google to no avail.

Are there any breeders of Ancona with a rose comb? Henderson's chicken chart says that they exist....did it lie?

Also, are Anconas very likely to feather pick, and all those nasty things, if in smaller than ideal housing?

Thanks!
