Hey everyone!

So, we are raising some chicks for a friend and keeping 4 for ourselves. We can only have hens within city limits, so we'd like to make sure we have all hens before delivering our friend her flock in August.

I'm going to post a bunch of photos of each chick we currently want to keep and what we know about them from time of purchase. If you all could help us determine breed and sex we'd so appreciate it!

I'm aware they're still young and you just never know, but if we can be at least almost certain they're all hens by mid August I'd feel confident in keeping them. I'll update photos weekly. 🥰 TIA!

Chick #1: Cleo

Cleo is a sweetie. She was purchased as a straight run "breeders choice". We are thinking she is an EE pullet.

We'd appreciate a guess on age, too!

Chick #2: "Chirpy Peep"

This was sold to us as a prairie bluebell pullet. Agree? Guesses on age/coloring?

Chick #3: "Snugs"

This chick was sold to us as a straight run "breeders choice" chick.

This group ID'd this chick as a suspected Buff Brahma when the chick was younger.

Guesses on age, sex, coloring, breed? This chick looks darker than the buff brahma chicks I've looked up, and is much smaller than a Brahma chick would be at this age. But she very well could be a buff brahma pullet!

Chick #4: "Cheeko"

This chick was sold to us as a straight run Ameraucauna.

We're REALLY hoping this one is a pullet. 😭 Thoughts on coloring, sex, age?

How old are your chicks? Usually it's not possible to accurately sex them until they're 6-8 weeks old.

They're cute!
They're varying ages, and as 2 of them were bought older as straight run, breeders choice, I have no idea. 😅 I'm guessing about 4 weeks for the suspected EE, brahma, and prairie bluebell. The Ameraucana I'm guessing is closer to 2 weeks old.

I'm mainly looking for educated guesses. 😅 Im aware they're a little young, and that's okay, I'm just posting this and will update weekly with new photos in hopes that by the time we need to rehome the flock that we can be at least 80% positive these four are pullets.

Nine of your chicks really look older than 3 weeks old. How long have you had them? Right now we can't really say gender, and a guess would be just a guess. I am really sceptical of the straight run birds though
