Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

My daughter got a nice pic of the red moon last week.

1000

Thats is a great pic. We saw nothing as it was too cloudy here as well.

Looks like our rain has decided to move up your way, we only got 72mm but still quite happy to see it move on. All this cold weather is not making it easy to get a peek at this chick, penny is keeping it very much under wraps which is good but frustrating lol

I was thinking of giving feather sexing a try this afternoon which penny is not going to be happy about at all. Part of it is just curiosity but the other is wanting to get the kids used to the idea from as early as possible that it's going to a new home when it's big enough if it's a boy. Being it's the only one it's going to be a bit harder to say goodbye if we have to as there is nobody else they are getting to keep. It would also be a relief to know I haven't got to start looking for homes if it's a girl.

Has anyone tried that and got it right?

I think its interesting but not reliable for all breeds.... .... .....

Would be interesting to see how right it turns out to be with your silkies. I found a post yesterday from someone who said they have been using it successfully with australorps.

Fancy that pic of the moon is beautiful. Too cloudy for me as well to see anything; great timing the clouds had

Congrats on everyone's hatches, it's making me all itchy and excited for my own impending hatchies next week.

Sam it would be great if it worked on silkies but it's my understanding that it is only reliable in hybrids with the slow feathering gene K. Recessive allele K are generally sex linked and have the late/slow feathering locus.

After several years of breeding silkies , I have resigned myself to the fact that when it comes to sexing them , I am nearly always 50% right.
