Its official! I spoke with Maggie today and the Australorp Fanciers International is moving forward. Several have been working on this for quite some time. Until the membership changes it by a vote, membership will be free. Currently there is one officer, the secretary, Marguerite "Maggie" Lindemann. She may be reached via email at [email protected] and is located in Bono, Arkansas.

Other officers will be elected as the membership grows. I will serve as the webmaster until their new board of directors finds a replacement. We are working on a club website etc. A new club logo is being created.

Maggie currently breeds Australorp Bantams. One poultry judge has described her bantams as:

Quote:
There is a lady that lives in north east Arkansas. She has the best I've ever seen, very nice type and small size.

Currently to join, email [email protected] with "New Member - Australorp Fanciers International" in the subject line. Give Maggie your contact information and if you breed large fowl or Bantam Australorp.

Well..... we DO NOT have Australorps!

However, the kids have some Australorp bantam eggs developing in the incubator.....

and.....

A BYC friend was talking to me on the phone this morning. She wanted to know if I knew of any 4H kids that would like to have some Black Australorps. My 11 year old son over heard our conversation. Needless to say, we moved some bantams out of large pens and made room for whatever we come home with tomorrow afternoon. Will take lots of photos and post asap.

She bought these out of a show and that exhibitor bought them from the Superior Farms sale out. Not sure what line they are, but are nice. called a Texas friend and he spoke to Jahdan. They came to an agreement for a dozen from his exhibition breeders. So I guess WE are not going to have Australorps....but Jahdan will!

My son recently acquired a small flock of Black Australorps from a friend. Not sure on their linage, but she bought them at the APA National 2010 in Shawnee, OK. I think Jahdan did well for an 11 year old! He also picked up a pair of very bad hair day chickens from the lady. He is so proud of his new flock!

And the bad hair day chickens!

I just thought i'd say the birds in the logo are incorrect in Australorp type... Kinda important to have the sweep to the back. Forming a shallow "U" shape. Should not be one solid line from the base of the neck thru the tail, there should be a round back that is well defined... Like a leghorn, with a back that is clearly rounded but clearly defined.

Although those represent the breed standard of Australia, I agree with Cuba- the image should be one that represents the breed in the United States. His image is more correct than the one being used. As a breeder and exhibitor of australorps for several years, these pictures need to be correct. We need to ensure we are promoting correct australorp type and not the miss types we see so often in the show hall. My largest complaint is australorps that look like orpingtons and Orpingtons that resemble australorps. These are two separate breeds and the description in the American SOP does an nice job separating the two. Lets please do the same. As for other standard types, lets outline them for those standards but make sure we separate them from the American type. I would refer to the Leghorn Club of the Netherlands. In Holland they allow the Dutch, English, and American types to be shown in several varieties. They do a fantastic job outlining the separate variations to not confuse breeding efforts.
Glad to see a club forming for such as great breed!
Brad

Maggie is working on the logo.

She is also working on her bantams,

Congratulations Marguerite Lindemann! She won Reserve SCCL, Australorp Bantam, cockerel. Judge Pat Malone stated hers were the finest Australorp Bantams he had ever seen. Maggie has set the bar high!
