Average Hatch Rate Thread

I have enjoyed watching this thread, and really anything above a 50% hatch should be considered a bonus! However, with all averages, sometimes it is quite a bit worse, and quite a bit better.

 

[Oven Ready]

4 out of 10 today - not so good.

Broody Hens
#eggs = 106 + 10 = 116
#chicks = 56 + 4 = 60
Average Hatch Rate = 51.7%

Incubator Hatchers (unchanged from last post)
#eggs = 438
#chicks = 197
Average Hatch Rate = 44.97%

Overall Hatch Rate
#eggs: 438 + 116= 554
#chicks: 197 + 60= 257
AHR = 46.4%

So I have given up on my broody's remaining eggs... But how to count?
She began with 10. I removed 2 after candling and finding no development. One was kicked out of the nest and broken. One hatched.
Do I call this 1/10, or 1/7?
Let me know what you think and I will post the stats.

I would call it 1/9 - had they been left uncandled, only the broken one wouldn't have reached hatch date, however it's completely up to you.
1/10 or 1/9 or 1/7 isn't going to skew the numbers hugely and it's the average that counts.

Sort of disapointing. I think I need a silkie!

This is very comforting to read. I imagined everyone on here had 75% plus hatch rates. I'll have to tally mine up soon, it's somewhere right around the average.

I apparently posted my hatch results too soon. I put up my 1/7 during lunch at work, and got home to find a second chick-3 days later. Good thing I hadn't yet removed the 'dud' eggs. I am gonna wait a bit before I update again in case I have other late chicks. So far I am 2/7...my best hatch yet!

I think i did this right. This is from my July hatch. I'll have a broody hatch next Sunday, and i'll add in the numbers if this is still going.
