Barred Rock ~5 weeks old - male or female?

No, sorry. But since this is a mix of breeds, appearance is variable. He looks right for one, but not right for a pure barred rock, male or female. The only other possibility I can see is that it's an olive egger, but I doubt it.

I sent photos to the feed store where I purchased him/her and they said he's a Barred Rock cockerel (it's a local place, not a chain store, so I hope they are somewhat more knowledgeable). But I agree with you, the coloring doesn't look right for that. He seems too dark to be a pure bred Barred Rock male. Any chance at all that he could be a she?
