Barred Rock Chicks ?

Is that a full blooded barred rock ? It's front is light like a rooster but it's back is dark like a hen ? Maybe it's just the picture and the lighting ...do you have another one ?

I don't know, I got it from tractor supply about 8 weeks ago.

Hatcheries sometimes sell various mix/mutts they create for high production egg layers. I've seen them called Production Blacks and all kinds of things. It's a chicken and you should enjoy the bird. But, a Barred Rock it is not.

Neither, right now. Those are terms for an adult chicken. It is a pullet. If it were a cockerel, I would fully expect to see a nice pink comb and little red wattles starting under it's beak.

Roosters will grab the feathers on the back of hens heads to steady themselves while mating. She actually looks really good for a being the only hen in the pen with the roo, he must be a real gentleman.

As for the chicks, they look like Barred Rocks to me. The really dark ones are females. The males will feather in with more white in their barring.

Yes, that rooster must be a serious gentleman if that is his only hen. She has feathers on her back and neck!

My guess is a hen.
