Golden feathers, you made a good point about getting less protein by mixing scratch with crumbles. I will definitely take note of that.

Agreed Michael, so why dont manufacturers add more protein to the scratch product?
I feed Dumor and greens with ww bread and table scraps and meat grease. I am beginning to add deer suet to their feed due to rapid temp drop.
Avoid Dumor, Purina or anything owned by Land O' Lakes. Recalls are enough to keep me away:

Some do. Some label it for roosters, http://www.baraleinc.com/index.php/products/poultry/item/141-16-rojo-grande-rooster-mix or you could always boost it with crimped oats since they are a decent digestible protein. Some people use nutritional yeast on occasion, which is loaded with B vitamins and amino acids. They will add a little oil to coat grains or feed, then add the nutritional yeast and mix it so it adheres to the feed.

It doesn't matter. Purina/Dumor are both owned by Land O' Lakes. Dumor was recalled less than 2 years ago: http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm313507.htmDumor and Land-O-Lakes are not part of the recall, here are the products and lot numbers involved in the recall.

That's not a scratch grain...
There is a big difference scratch and what you posted.
What you posted looks a lot like a gamefowl feed. They have a mix of grains and pellets in it to form a complete feed.
Michael - I really appreciate your perspective on the nutrition end of things here. Do you know of a list (or have a recommendation) of oils to use for coating grains/feed to add dry supplements to? I'd prefer non-gmo or organic and something that won't go rancid quickly. I will be adding some powdered fish meal and Nutri Balancer to wheat, corn and pre-formulated feed (to improve the feed quality). Olive oil, coconut oil (would be expensive) or something else?
That brings me to another question if you might have an idea. Won't the oils used in chicken feed go rancid quickly anyways? They're open to oxygen in a mesh plastic or paper sack and I would think would oxidize fairly quickly. Of course temperature would influence this. But do feed mfr's typically add something to the oils to stabilize them?
Thanks much!
