Those here in the South often use Spanish moss...

I want to know too. We usually use straw, easy to clean out, but I love the 'look' of spanish moss. Do the chickens eat it? and is it harmful if they do?

I use wheat straw most of the time since we're wheat farmers and so I have that readily available.

We just use plain straw, nothing fancy.

WOW!!! You have trees? All we have are glorified cactus called Joshua Trees....LOL
Thank you about warning. Our craft store sells it in very small package (would take 3 pgks to line a nest box) and is nearly $4 per pkg. $$$

I use pine shavings... it's never been a problem.
