We got 4 "breeds" of chickens and can't help but wonder what baby chicken offspring would look like if they crossed with my Speckled Sussex rooster. I mostly wonder about how to breed egg color. Any ideas? We are not attempting to get into breeding as of now, but can't I dream? lol

Speckled Sussex Roo (light brown egg) x Cream Legbar (blue egg)

Speckled Sussex Roo (light brown egg) x Splash Laced Red Wyandotte (brown egg)

Speckled Sussex Roo (light brown egg) x Easter Egger (multi-color egg)

Now, here is a run down on what my 4 EEs look like:
  • Astra is black EE. Looks just like the Black Ameraucana from Cackle Hatchery pics.
  • Ari is whitish-lavenderish EE. Looks somewhat like the Lavender Ameraucana from Cackle Hatchery pics.
  • Elektra is grayish-blueish-dark lavenderish EE. Looks just like the Blue Ameraucana from Cackle Hatchery pics.
  • Esther is a mix of colors truly. She looks closest to a Cream Legbar/Olive Egger, according to Cackle Hatchery pics.
As of now (21 weeks old), none of my chickens have laid any eggs. :( Soooo... if you have any guesses as to which Easter Egger is going to lay what color egg, let me know your guesses. (I am aware this is just for fun.)
** Edit: I just realized that Esther is the one in my profile picture. **

Sounds like fun. Pictures would really help, of your chickens the age they are now.. Especially since I am a totally ignorant novice and I am here to learn. Can't wait to see what the experienced breeders have to say.

Well I just learned on YouTube that the blue egg color is dominant. Also got some screenshots for reference

This interesting, I've just found out I have two SS roos!

I think your SS x CL you'll be able to sex as chicks! And pullets might lay a light green egg I think.

I'm not sure about the others. I guess an EE could be barred if so they'll also be able to be sexed at hatch.

Update!

I crossed my Speckled Sussex rooster with my Splash Laced Red Wyandotte hens and here is what we got!

We call them the three chipmunks for now. Follow along - I will try to update photos as they age! Yay!

2 week old photoshoot
They seem to be following the Speckled Sussex feather pattern so far (father/rooster breed).
