Brood Hen experiment.

Well I don't know how this is going to turn out. But this is what we're trying to do. We have 4 layers and one had started to brood so we let her and ordered 5 chicks to be delivered in three weeks. They showed up yesterday and last night at midnight we switched out her egg with the chicks. This morning all 5 were still alive. more to follow

Did she set for the three weeks, or did the chicks come early? Loads of people do post here wanting to 'graft' chicks so your experience here will help a lot of other BYCers.

She set for three at least. we marked one egg to leave for her and took out the rest each morning. moved her from the nesting box to underneath it with the chicks.

That is so adorable!!! What a nice 'family portrait' -- I hope that I have similar good fortune in about 2-weeks time!
