I thought I'd start a thread with pics for anyone interested in following along on how this chick from this cross turns out. There was quite a few people enquiring about the mix. So here is my 5 day old chick from my pair. Her name is Niblet.

I've owned both Orpingtons and Speckled Sussex but never a cross between the two. However, given the friendly, gentle personality of both breeds, Niblet will likely have a great temperament. If Niblet turns out to be a pullet (too young to sex at this point), she should be a good layer of large, brown eggs as well. Good luck with Niblet.

I agree! Both my rooster and hen are incredibly friendly. I'm crossing fingers this one is a pullet so I can keep her. ..and thank you!

Update on Niblet. She is now 7 weeks old. She's friendly and calm. A nice little chick...and so pretty too.
