I'm planning on getting call ducks soon. I know they are very small and I'm wondering how they are if left to free range in an area with a vegetable garden. Will they damage the garden? I would love to use them for insect control, but don't want them to destroy the garden in the process. Does anyone have experience with call ducks or bantam ducks in the garden?

They will damage the garden, it's best to let them in there in between seasons or only under supervision.

Try to keep them out when you have seedlings especially. They should be okay with most mature plants (though maybe not peas.)

This is of course going to depend what they have a taste for. Mine decided that the leaves on the peach sapling was the best treat ever. The apple tree saplings not so much.

Raised beds can make it so the ducks may be less supervised.
