I know this sounds stupid but I am not an expert so here it is. I was asked by a young man if a Rooster could ever lay an egg? I told him no, I never heard of a rooster ever laying an egg. Any coments?

When I say that out loud it makes me laugh!

VERY RARELY chickens can sex change themselves. Sometimes you get these sort of crossing the gender line chooks. I would think those sort of qualify, but as I said, it would have to be a pretty rare situation.

And some hens will crow, especially if they had a rooster with them, and then he is gone. It is as if they miss him and are honoring him somehow.

Freaky, I know.

They don't change sex to the extent that they develop new reproductive organs; they experience a change in hormone levels which changes their appearance, in particular their plumage and behaviour.
