Well, we tried for 5 pullets but it didn’t work out that way!
We have at least 2 cockerels.
They are 9 1/2 weeks.
They are funny creatures for sure!

I have 3 Faverolles and two of them are roos! They hatched in early April and have a very calm temperament. Is there anyone in my area that would like one? (located in central Virginia, but can possibly meet west or east of RVA) I would love to find a good home for one, or maybe both.

Salmon. She doesn’t react to loud noises or any noises for that matter. When she is sleeping you can scream near her and nothing. She is completely deaf. And her vision maybe partially impaired but that’s just a feeling.

Salmon Faverolles are NOT heat tolerant correct? I wanted one but everything I have read makes me believe they would not do well in this heat. I am in SE Texas where 90's to 100 is very common.

The Faverolles is a French breed of chicken, developed in the 1860s near the village Faverolles from whence it took its name. Faverolles are known to have quiet and docile temperaments. Their good nature makes them an excellent choice for the backyard flock owner and they are popular as pets for children. Their excellent temperament combined with their production capabilities, has also seen them becoming popular with small flock owners looking for a gentle dual purpose breed. Their gentle nature does make them prone to being bullied by aggressive breeds though and they do best in flocks with other quiet breeds of similar temperaments. The males are said to make extremely quiet roosters.

They are quite unusual in appearance in that they have five toes and feathered shanks, as well as being heavily bearded and muffed, and their most popular color Salmon, is a color pattern which is exclusive to the Faverolles. Salmon colored birds have the females appearing a lightly colored pinkish wheaten and white, compared to the males which are a striking combination of black, gold and straw color, both have slate colored underfluff.

Many different breeds were used in developing the Faverolles, including the Houdan, Brahma and Dorking. They were originally bred to be a dual purpose production breed, and it is still fairly early maturing, quite winter hardy, an excellent table bird and the hens are good layers of large tinted eggs, especially in the winter. In the early 1900’s Faverolles were producing most of the eggs for the Paris, France market.

The Favorolles was imported into the US in the early 1900’s and is a very popular show bird today, both in standard and bantam sizes. They come in a number of colors, including the best known Salmon, White, Buff, Cuckoo and Blue among others.

It was recognized by the APA in 1914.
It is on The Livestock Conservancy's Threatened list.

I absolutely love mine. She's definitely a kinder, gentler pullet than some of my others, and was the first to accept a new pullet that was introduced to the flock a few weeks ago.

Salmon Faverolles are NOT heat tolerant correct? I wanted one but everything I have read makes me believe they would not do well in this heat. I am in SE Texas where 90's to 100 is very common.

Mine is only 14 weeks old. I’m in Missouri, we have had 115 heat index and she has seemed ok. I also have my run and coop covered in shade cloth so that might help.

 

[Miami Leghorn]

We placed an order of 17 egg layer chicks and within that order were a trio of Salmon pullets and one roo.The rest are Leghorns. I was not prepared for the cuteness of those Salmon Faverolle chicks and they're turning out to be a dream as far as temperament and the behaviour.
Also interestingly,they seem to gravitate to each other when pasturing.This is a pic of one pullet feeding while a Leghorn pullet observes.
The Salmon ended up sitting in the feeder to finish up her portion.-They seem to do that alot.- In observance they tend to form their "gang" thing while the other more flighty birds are going through, running around, vying for position of the hierarchy, scratching and looking to see what the others are eating; they seem to be basically doing their own thing.
If I get a chance and I catch them in a group,which is quite often, I will post a picture.
