My chicken Juniper's back is red and irritated!!
Hello everybody, my chicken Juniper has been acting normal, but her lower back is red and irritated. She is not molting, even though her back is bald and featherless. We have no roosters in the flock, and the other hens tend to leave her alone and not bully her. She is laying eggs daily and acting perfectly normal. I have checked for mites, but there isn't any, this has been going on for a few weeks now, and I tried to treat it, but it didn't seem to get any better. If anybody has any idea what could be wrong please help!!

Has Juniper had this bald spot for a long while? If so then it is probably just her skin reacting to the sun exposure. It's likely not anything that can harm her in the long run, and as for treating it, you might just have to wait until she grows new feathers in. Anyway, I would not be worried for her health unless she starts acting sick.
