Ok, what is the trick for getting these on? Does the tail go in the pouch? I can't get his legs through - by the time I get the elastic pulled on over one side and try to reach around to pull it over the other he has popped the first side off...20 minutes and a pile of feathers later I gave up...

Yes the feathers get a chance to grow back under the saddle.
