After a lot of arguements and debates between my mother and I about how to get rid of poultry lice she insists on using DE because she read a "blog" that uses it. BTW, Sevin dust is 95% DE so I lost my argument lol. Either way my nephews love playing with the chicks and I'm worried about them handling the chicks after using DE. Any suggestions or instructions? I'm thinking we should just use wood ash but I'm certain she'll want to use de since she purchased it yesterday. Thanks.

Permethrin garden dust or 10% spray is good to use on chickens for lice. Lice from chickens do not bother humans. There is some diatomataceous earth in Sevin, but there is also clay as a filler, so it isn't 90% DE. Carbaryl is the active ingredient, and can be a cancer causing agent, although I have use it without incident for decades.
