Clean duck water and free food. Aquaponics Duckaponics

hey WVduckchick I am in WV as well and I am planning on doing a filter duckponic system as well in the next 2 months. this is my design for now. I am posting a pic of the ibc pond that will be used.

this is the pond now it is raised for easy draining. It has a hose hookup now so the dirty water is drained into the garden as fertilizer

Yes, I am totally interested. Please post more pictures and plans. I have wondered if something like this could be done. Yours looks great.

Hello
It is a constant flow system. I built the pond about a year ago and could not keep it clean so I bought that big black Matala filter and pump you see in the pic. It did not help and clogged up in about two days from all the poop.

I bought two plastic 35 gallon barrels and cut them in half.
Used old 4x4 treated wood I had laying around for the stand. The beds set higher than the pond
Installed PVC outlets in to the end of the barrels with a piece that goes almost to the top of the barrel so the barrel stays full of water
Filled the barrels with lava rock because its cheap and light then i put a few inches of pea gravel on the top (not pictured yet) so it would be easier to plant stuff
I picked a spot on the outlet side of the filter and drilled a hole and ran 3/4 " pvc to the barrels. Then I just teed it off to each one.
The water flows by gravity out of the filter and into the bed. Then it flows through the rock and back in to the pond.

I am not very artistic but I will try to come up with a diagram.
Thank you

Thank you, I can't believe how well it works and its easy to expand. I will get some more recent pics up by the weekend. Had to build a removable wire cover over it, my ducks figured out what it was real fast and ate my first batch of seeds and sprouts.

After my third time planting (ducks kept eating the seeds and sprouts so i built a cover) We are growing again.

Thank you!! I just showed my husband all of your pictures and weather permitting, he is going to help me get a similar set up!!! I think this will end up being a lot cheaper than anything else I've looked at, and considering our duck family is expanding at the end of this month, we need to upgrade asap lol :)
