What should I look for in a bird for breeding? Is there anything I should look for that would dq them from a breeding group?

That really depends what you want out of your flock.

Then you need an SOP book, and advice more experienced than mine. What breed are you trying to preserve? If it has an active thread on BYC, you should get a lot of very good advice there.
