If you look closely you'll see some "fuzz" around the eye. What I did was embroider the eye separately on a piece of brown fabric, cut it out, and sewed it to the head. It's been so long I had to look at it a minute to remember how I did it. That's actually the only embroidery I've ever done.

Yes, you do a dc in front of your work and anchor it in a loop a couple of stitches down. At least I think that's what you said, lol!Those look very cool! How is that texture achieved. Front post dc's?
