dirty eggs?

if and when i get a dirty egg, it goes right back to the chickens.. scramble it, microwave it on a disposable plate.. never get poopy eggs, but rainy days i might get a muddy egg.. pretty girls you got there too.. :)

:highfive:

Eggs have a bloom coating on them that seals the egg from outside contaminants. You can very safely wash eggs in warm water. The opening pores and etc. are wives tales.
Manna pro makes an egg wash solution:

And there are also bleach based egg cleaners:

https://www.amazon.com/PRODUCTS-POW...=UTF8&qid=1507043503&sr=8-5&keywords=egg+wash

Washing with either of these products will not remove the protection of the bloom from the egg. The stuff they do to commercial eggs is much harsher.

I would not waste a precious egg because it had a bit of poo on it...that would make be sad...

So far we have 2 chickens laying so have just been putting our eggs (with the date on them)in a clean eggs carten that sits on our counter. Before use I have been rinsing them with warm water. Is this ok? How long can we let them sit on the counter like this, before we need to give them away so they will not go bad. When all 4 of our chickens start laying we will have more eggs then we can probably eat. I'm looking forward to giving fresh eggs to family and friends

Recommendation is to wash eggs in warm water, not cold. When I have an egg that is dirty, I wash it and keep it for my own use. If it's still stained after washing, I feed it to the birds or to the dog. Some hens are prone to defecating immediately after laying an egg, which i think is the issue here. It is due to irregularity of the inversion of the cloaca which blocks off the intestine while the egg is being laid. IT IS NOT A SIGN OF THE BIRD HAVING WORMS.

BTW, nice looking birds.

You can leave them on the counter for a couple of weeks. I leave them for a couple of days and only wash them if they are dirty.

In the US, commercial eggs have been scrubbed and treated with so many chemicals that they cannot stay out. Most of the world does not work that way. In Europe, eggs are not refrigerated.

Rinsing with warm water is a good idea--and cracking them individually into a bowl too. Sometimes you can get a bad egg. Most of the time they are fine but I do remove meat spots and bloody eggs can happen too
