diversity in breeding stock.

I am gearing up to start breeding my own sex- links for eggs and meat. I understand that concept. I will probably trade or sell most of the cockerels at the local live stock swaps. This past spring n summer I noticed a lot of people looking for show quality chickens at the live stock swaps. I am not interested in showing birds myself but I thought I might try selective breeding to produce birds I could sell to the collectors at the swaps. How many generations can be interbreed before interbreeding creates genetic problem? That is to say if I have a great show rooster can I interbreed him with his on offspring and for how many generations?

You should not have a problem with back crossing offspring to the male or sibling crosses for the life of the rooster.

Are you trying to breed SQ sex links? Or are you working on two different projects?

two different projects. the sex links are for eggs. i got a waiting list for eggs now. i think i've found a market for the cockerels. i am going to start with NHReds and RIR roos and white rock hens. The show birds are just to see if i can do it.
