I, personally, love the look of dread locks on some people. If you are thinking they are maintenance free though, you are dreaming, LOL. They actually require a fair amount of care and upkeep. As far as them being dirty, that is just silly. Having dread locks has nothing to do with personal hygiene. Case in point, I see plenty of people walking around daily that are dirty and smelly that certainly don't have dread locks! LOL. As other people have said though, the big drawback is that it wrecks your hair for anything else. When you are tired of the dreads, you pretty much have to cut them off, unless you have done something like having dread extensions pinch braided in (which actually might be a good option if you can get a friend to help you).
