This thread will be my hatching thread, where i'll post pictures and updates about my duck egg hatch (which starts today). Enjoy the photos to come, and wish me luck

OMG. That is the cutest thing I've ever seen. Do ducklings not need as much supplemental heat as chicks? Did you have to make the water warm (to swim in)? I have six Rouens due on Nov. 18th. I'm dying for call ducks!


Im honesty not the best person to be asking that, this is my first time ever raising ducks (or any poultry for that matter). :)

But I assume that ducklings need the same amount of heat chicks do, since they are somewhat simular in size. The water temps were around room temp, maybe lukewarm. Good luck with your incubating ducks, dont forget to post pics. ;)
 
Ducklings do need supplemental heat. But they tend to prefer it somewhat cooler than chicks do. Whenever I let my ducklings swim, I would use lukewarm water to be sure they didn't chill. But I don't know if that is actually necessary.
