My daughter got her first egg yesterday. Of course she was disappointed when she went out today and found none. I know that a chicken wont likely lay every day and after the first egg it can take several days before another.

Is it likely that the other girls will start to lay any day now as well?
Should i maintain them in the coop rather than free ranging for a few days?

The egg is small but perfectly formed etc.
i want to eat it but im not sure if it is ok because it was outside for a day and it was warm out

How warm is warm?
An unwashed egg doesn't have to be refrigerated.
Eat it.
This time of year, there is no way to tell when laying will commence. But if they are all the same age and breed the others can't be far behind.

This post is in the incubation thread. Were you considering incubating?

It was 60 degrees yesterday. Sorry to post in wrong place. We incubated the eggs that are now laying chickens. Pretty cool

In the tropics, eggs are on the store shelves, next to the bread. The stores aren't air conditioned and are usually 90F or more during the day.

Good point. Ate the egg today
Got another egg today. Is that an austrolorp in your avatar
