Hi,

We have been discussing when we can expect fresh egg omelets. Our Barred Rock pullets (6) hatched mid August so will reach egg laying age in January/February. Given this is a cold dark time of year and we are not going to be lighting the coop I am not expecting eggs till March/April or even May for longer days and warmth. Is this a reasonable projection?

Thank you

Kind of depends on the chicken. I had two start laying last December. I do supply extra light. A lot of people say their hens just slow down in the winter not stop. Good luck

I'm in the same boat as you. My BRs were born Aug 10th... I'm hoping that being as I'm in Florida they will start laying in the winter.
