Emu Hatch-a-long 2012

I got it at Costco but BJ's has them too, just have to look or ask someone. The walls are from the cardboard thar comes between the layers of products. I just cut them in half lond ways and used boxing tape to tape them together. Theodore was shacking so I put the side of my dog cage on the top to hold the heat lamp.

Got my results today. Theodore is a GIRL! and the other is a BOY so I gots a pair! Both eggs are from Kansas. Niether chick has a bulls eye type design on top of each head so you really can't go by that theory. I thought both would be girls by going with the head design.

I only vent sexed two so far (both were boys so they went to their new home the other day)

I might sit down and vent sex the others tomorrow... it was too depressing after the first two so I quit,,,

I sent mine to Zoogen. They got the eggs Wednesday and I called yesterday for the results. If you used Zoogen give them a call.

I don't know how to vent sex so I send out the egg shells LOL. You have to move forward and sex the chicks. Any unwanted males if you ship you can send to me

I will get mates for them sooner or later LOL

Io, Europa or Ganymede (Jupiters other three named larger moons).. there are something like 67 named moons.. but those four (Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto) were the ones discovered by Galileo

When emus became available in the United States they were LIVESTOCK... bred and raised FOR MEAT

It is only within the past few years that people have started to make PETS of them

they SHOULD NOT be a fad pet.. they are not meant for everyone

PLEASE do your research before running out and getting emus if you are considering it at all....

just a few notes:

they can live 25+ years.. can kick like a mule (and have razor sharp nails).. can kill the family dogs, cats and "pet" chickens among other things

They require sturdy fences.. LARGE areas in which to stretch their legs .. can run extremely fast with large strides...

special attention needs to be made towards their feeding since the wrong food during growth can cause lameness and leg / hip issues.. and MANY vets have NO idea how to treat one when it is hurt or ill... so they will either charge you an arm and a leg while trying to figure out HOW to treat them.. or recommend that they be put down.
