The DST time change got me to thinking about the nature of time, and that eventually reminded me of an old story of the days before the internet was around to give us the exact time;
There was a town whose major employer was a coal mine, and they blew a whistle at 8:00 am to tell the employees that it was time to start work. The fellow who blew the whistle had to walk by the local jewelry store on his way to work every morning, set his watch to the time on the clock in the window.
Years later the jewelry store owner and the mine worker, both retired now were sitting around talking and the mine worker asked the jewelry store owner how he got the exact time to set his clock. The owner said, "I just reset it to eight o'clock everyday when the mine whistle blew.
